Features of EWOFS
The Workshop programme will include
-
Invited oral presentations by leading experts in the field of optical sensing and related R&D fields
-
Submitted contributions, all undergoing a rigorous peer-review process based on full-length manuscripts. Acceptance will be based on the quality, relevance, and originality of the submitted work.
-
Contributions by funding agencies and research and innovation planning organizations.
-
Discussions on the evaluation, future prospects, exploitation, and commercialization of optical and fibre-optic sensing technologies
-
A technical exhibition showcasing state-of-the-art products, services, and developments in the field.
Optical fibre sensors will remain at the heart of EWOFS 2027, while the growing integration of artificial intelligence is expected to redefine the future of sensing technologies. The conference will provide a forum for advances in AI-enabled sensing concepts, novel transducers based on advanced and nanostructured materials, intelligent sensing subsystems combining innovative hardware and machine-learning techniques, and multi-point or distributed sensing supported by data-driven analysis. Contributions will also address emerging applications and the translation of these technologies into smart, autonomous, and self-calibrating fibre-optic sensing systems.
Conference Proceedings
Accepted contributions will be compiled into the Conference Proceedings edited by IOP.
Special Issue
In addition to the Conference Proceedings, the authors are invited to submit an extended version of the accepted papers for an EWOFS 2027 dedicated Special Issue of the Journal of Optics - IOP Science.
Format of EWOFS 2027
The EWOFS philosophy is built around discussion, interaction, and the active involvement of all participants. To foster this environment, all contributed papers will be presented in poster format, encouraging direct exchanges between authors and attendees.
Each poster session will be introduced by invited talks providing state-of-the-art perspectives on the topics addressed. Following the poster presentations, attendees will be organized into discussion groups to analyse and debate the contributions presented. The conclusions emerging from these discussions will then be shared in plenary sessions led by a panel comprising representatives from the different groups.
This interactive format is designed to stimulate constructive scientific exchange, encourage networking and collaboration, and provide an especially valuable experience for early-career researchers and PhD students. It also creates a unique forum for discussing emerging trends, technological advances, and future challenges in optical fibre sensing.
